Semantic MDM^*

Many people are familiar with our work with Semantic Technology and Service Oriented Architecture but might wonder, “What is the MDM connection?”

Semantic Technology holds the promise of creating a shared definition of an enterprise's key concepts in a way that can be leveraged into SOA, Unstructured Data Integration, integration with external data sources, RESTful architecture and Model Driven Development.

Many companies are looking at Semantic Technology as their long-term direction. And  many of them are struggling to figure out where to start.

MDM provides a nice entry point. It is easier to fund, because most MDM projects have fairly short, tangible paybacks. And MDM projects, by their nature, need to model the semantics of the data they are consolidating and rationalizing. The problem is, historically, this modeling was done on an ad hoc basis and discarded shortly after the project completed.
